This time around, I have gotten more tech savvy and did a Google Form for the process!

If you would like to donate a prize to the giveaway, you can easily do so! By clicking on the picture below, you will be taken to a short form to fill out.
This will answer all the essential questions regarding the donation. I will then send you a follow up e-mail to confirm. Thanks so much in advance for your generosity! I truly appreciate it!

Monday Made It - Craft Fail Edition {FREEBIE}

I'm gonna just start this post off with the positive first because after this it's all downhill. I finally discovered how to use my iPad to make graphics! Yay! I whipped up these 3 borders for you all to share for Manic Monday with Classroom Freebies.

I haven't linked up for that in weeks now and I owed you! I plan on trying to tackle more borders, frames, and ultimately clip art in the future! If you use them in your creations, just give a link to my blog or share my blog button on the credits page.

I had such high hopes of this weekend being a wonderful crafting weekend! After all, it is the first week of Monday Made It with Tara at 4th Grade Frolics and I was aiming to start this off with a bang.
I picked out my favorite new pins and got ready to get my craft on. It started out like a dream. However, this weekend turned out to be craft fails 3, me 0.

Note: None of these photos have been edited in any way so that you can see the full effect fails.

First up, and *most* successful are these fun colored jars.

This pin seemed simple enough! All you have to do is mix Elmer's glue with food coloring. Paint it on, let it dry and you have these beautiful jars!

Absolutely not the case with me! Here is how my version turned out.

This is the before version - Right after I finished painting.

Here is the end result - Looks alright but not really up to par!

Let's talk about the downfalls of this project:
1. Paint did not cover evenly at all. It was very streaky and uneven.
2. Paint brush hairs kept falling out and sticking to the sides.
3. Dried bubbly and really thick on the bottom. Did not dry all beautiful pearly looking.
4. Food coloring stained your hands if you touched it.
5. The polka dots on the jar kept getting messed up and looks a bit strange with the half see through jar.
6. This jar requires an insanely long drying time for just a simple coat of glue. Been roughly 24 hours and still it is not drying yet and don't know if it will ever be!
Overall, I wouldn't try doing this project again. It would have been easier to just spray paint the jar in one coat than paint multiple coats of this gluey mess.

Next, I did my own spin on these upcycled containers.
They look so perfect and so easy to make. Just wrap in scrapbook paper, seal with modge podge and voila! Instant adorableness!

Here's my version, the most unsuccessful pin of the weekend.

I had this leftover food container that I thought would be perfect to turn into some container to use in the classroom. However, everything that could have possibly gone wrong went wrong.
1. Ran out of spray paint before I finished.
2. Spray paint got all messed up in the process drying on the tarp.
3. Modge Podge just hates me and always gets streaky.
4. Scrapbook paper didn't align right and just looks crazy stupid.
5. After spray painting and modge podging, the lid no longer fits on the container.

Yup that is a definite failure in my book!

Finally, the most disappointing were these DIY glitter sneakers.

This was a pin that I was just dying to try! It was all dependent on finding some canvas sneakers. After finding the perfect pair, I thought it was going to be a match made in shoe heaven! During the process, it seemed like these shoes were going to be my new favorite shoes ever. However, after they finished drying, they were practically unwearable. So sad!

Here's everything that went wrong with these shoes:
1. After taping the sides, the shoes remained eternally sticky even after using goo gone, nail polish remover, you name it. Anywhere you walk, you pick up tons of dirt and dust.
2. The shoes dried in one solid layer of modge podge! With each step you take, the shoes crack and glitter falls off.
3. The shoes don't really fit anymore because they don't stretch.

This one pin I would be willing to try again though. I just love it that much. Here are the changes that I would make:
1. Buy different sneakers. I'd probably buy keds which are softer material and then might still stretch more in the end.
2. Use very fine glitter. I think that the glitter I used was too big. It required more modge podge than finer glitter might have and as a result made the shoes crack.
3. Ignore the taping process and just be very careful with the glitter. I think it would be easier to scrape off glitter if it dripped rather than having dirty shoes 24/7.

As it is clear to see, these were not successful pins by any means for me. If you were to pin them on Pinterest, or share on instagram, the might look fantastic as a tiny little image. However, when you really dive closer the major flaws are revealed. Oh well! Better luck next week! Hopefully I will be able to share some craft successes. Otherwise, I might need to start a new weekly series: Craft Fails with The Polished Teacher. Now head back over to Tara's blog and read about some successful pins! I know that's where I'm headed!

Currently June

What would I do without Farley to keep me on top of the changing months? Seriously where does the time go? Another month, another Currently!

Here's my Currently for the month of June...

Listening: I am not a big fan of watching sports on TV. There are plenty of other things I would much rather be watching (namely reality TV). Sports, not so much. They take far too long, are repetitive, and often put me to sleep. However, the majority of my family does not see the joy in watching 20+ men fight over one girl's love and thus I am forced to endure hours of sports TV. Luckily I have plenty of blogs to stalk and pins to repin.

Loving: During school, I have so much homework and so many textbooks to read that reading for fun just does not happen. Now that I am on vacation I have plenty of time to read and it is fabulous! If you have any must reads let me know in the comments below!

Thinking: Seriously I am about ready to buy a shed to put outside to house all the books and Dollar Spot goodies that I keep purchasing. It's slowly taking over the entire house. It's quite a problem but I just can't stop!

Wanting: I have been wanting to go on a cross country road trip my entire life. I am dying to see different parts of the country than the small part I have been exposed to. It definitely isn't going to happen any time soon but a girl can dream right?

Needing: The days are just not long enough. This is a common thread in my life. I come home and all of a sudden out of nowhere it is 10 o'clock. I have barely finished dinner and have had no time to unwind before it's time to go to bed. You would think summer vacation would have solved this problem but nope it's still happening!

3 Vacay Essentials: I don't go anywhere without a good book. Make that more like at least 5. I love reading in the car on long drives. Also, a camera is a must have. I am an obsessive picture taker. I have been known to go on one weekend vacation and take 600 pics. Finally, no vacation would be complete without some family or friends to share the memories with!

Can't wait to see what everyone else is up to this month! Thanks again Farley!

Five for Friday Flashback

This week was my first week of "Summer vacation" with no more school. However, I worked worked worked for my summer job so I am so thankful for the weekend! Here's a little recap of my week with Kacey and Amanda.

(Check out these photos and more on my instagram @thepolishedteacher)

1. I broke down and bought an Erin Condren Lesson Planner. The teacher appreciation sale did me in. I need to actually stay organized and keep on top of lesson planning this year and what better way to do so than with Erin Condren at my side? I am hoping the bright colorful pages and knowing I want to get every cent I spent out of it will make me use this planner for more than a week.

2. Books, books, and more books! I have a problem. Savers is my biggest weakness! My class mates joke that I need to go to Bookaholics Anonymous. But really, what teacher can pass up a book bargain? My favorite find of the day: looks brand new hardcover Elf on the Shelf for 55 cents! Perfect for my first year in the classroom during Christmas!

3. As clearly evident from my blog name, I love nail polish! When every store I went to this past week had nail polish sales, I couldn't refuse! BOGO, Buy 2 Get 1 free, and 75% off was too good to be true! Where else can you get nail polish for 49 cents? Now I am all stocked up for the next year!

4. I found this new free app this week and I love it! I have played the other icon pop games but this one takes the cake in my book! It's called IconSongPop. You listen to an acoustic version of a popular song and use the given letters to spell the song title or the song artist. It's fun for the whole family!

5. We finally had a Summer heat wave! The weather this year has been so strange! Just last week it was in the 40's and then jumped up into the 90's! While it was a nice taste of Summer, I am looking forward to the temperature going back into the 70's this coming week.

There you have it ladies and gentlemen. A week in the life of The Polished Teacher! Have a wonderful weekend! I'm going to try and get my craft on so I have something to share for Monday Made It!
