  1. Apple themed??? Hmmm. I have my 3rd graders color an apple, then cut it into pieces and leave space between the pieces as they glue it to construction paper...I should blog about that in a few weeks when I have samples....

  4. We make apple butter on Harvest Day, our version of Halloween b/c costumes are a no-no at my school. Not only is it delicious, but the first grade pod smells fantastic all day!

  8. Apple themed- we do whole thematic unit starting with Johnny Appleseed books and compare and contrast the stories, label the parts of an apple, the life cycle of an apple tree, and then eat and compare red and green apples.

  9. I love to make homemade applesauce as a culminating activity at the end of our apple unit. The kids love it! And it leads into a great graphing lesson and "how to" writing!

  10. I usually work with small groups (spec ed) students so I love to do food activities. My favorite apple one is decorating a cookie w/ green Cool Whip & adding re m& m's. We work on sequencing, following directions, fine motor skills, etc. Of course the kids love it because they get to eat their apple tree.dbednarsk@yahoo.com

  12. I love apple tasting. I try to buy as many different kinds of apples for my kinders to taste. We take a bite and graph whether we liked it or not. Then graph our favorites. Ash, your giveaway is AWESOME!!!

  16. I like to tie it in with Johnny Appleseed because he planted trees around the area where I live. I have a video we watch that mentions our county, although they botch the pronunciation. This makes the kids chuckle.

  17. I have to admit that I don't do apple themed activities with my junior gifted students BUT I DO love apple themed anything! Several years ago when I had to take time off from teaching for surgery, my class bought a HUGE red apple cookie jar and filled it with "get well wishes". I have never been so touched! I have that jar still filled with the precious wishes in my kitchen! No cookies will ever enter that special gift!

  23. We always do apple day in my classroom!! We have several rotations including apple tasting, apple graphing, making caramel apples (my favorite!), making apple jacks necklaces, and apple painting. :)

  24. Well since my last name is Applegate apples are ALWAYS mentioned by my students. My favorite was when they decided make a paper gate (literally) and cut out and glue apples onto the gate to represent each student in the class. It was hilarious.

  26. We use apples to learn patterns. Students make AB or ABC patterns using apply cutouts and label their patterns.

  31. I love having students do Apple Science!! We go apple picking, gather some different types of apples, make predictions on the number of seeds, the size and do a taste test.

  35. Ap-pealing Apples internet project from years ago....and now we do it on our own. We compare the moisture lost by cut, peeled, whole apples by weighing them. We compare our favourite apples. We make applesauce. :)

  36. When I taught kinder, we had all the kids bring in an apple and we made a 'live' bar graph of the different colors of the apples. Then we tasted different apples and took surveys on which color apple we liked the best!

  47. My favorite apple activity is bring your favorite apple food to share. The students write about it before hand and tell, in their opinion, why it is their favorite. Then after the tasting is finished they decide if the apple food they brought is still their favorite and why. It is interesting to see the results and the reasons.
