F is for... {Giveaway Day 6} & Currently August!

Where has the summer gone! Can you believe it is August already! I know some of you are already back in school but for me, August means it's the last month of vacation before my lifetime of waking up at 5am begins! It also means it's time for Currently with Farley!

Listening: I love to watch House Hunters International as a way to pretend travel the world!

Loving: Seriously! You bloggers are amazing! I can't thank you enough for donating so many fabulous prizes to help me celebrate! You are the best!

Thinking: 2 am bedtime isn't really going to work when you have to be up at 5 now is it? Don't think 3 hours of sleep will work with those kindergarteners never ending energy supply!

Wanting: I have this problem. I can't stop buying children's books! Buying them means I need to get them all organized and that takes effort. I'll decorate your classroom if you catalog my books! Deal?

Needing: Summer is flying by! Slow down! I want to savor every second of those lazy Summer days!

Back to School must haves: Erin Condren teacher planner obviously is #1! Then I always have to go back to school in style with my Vera Bradley lunch box. Finally, those Frixion erasable pens are amazing! I never write in pen because I always mess up but these allow me to fix my mistakes and still write in fun colors. Love them!

Now... back to the giveaway! Won't you stick around and enter?

  1. Well I'm at a new school this year and we are allowed FIVE whole field trips a year. That's a lot for me. Just came from 1 or 2 a year. So excited. And we have some awesome trips lined up.

  2. We only go on two field trips a year but my favorite is the trip to the ocean to study tide pools. :o)

  3. We only get one trip BUT I recently found out we can hit 2 places in a day and it counts as one field trip! Tricky!! Favorite trip is to the local caverns.

  4. One of the worst fields I have ever taken was a 2 hour drive from Charleston to Myrtle Beach to go to their aquarium. When our aquarium is way better. And we had to leave at 6 am and did not get home till 5. That is a long day with Kindergarten, first, and second graders. Did I mention we took them all to a buffet for lunch? yea, not my idea,

  5. We have a really cool animal park very close to us which is so cool because we live in a very rural area. This place has giraffes, zebra, tropical birds, SO many things. It's great because we have lots of kids who don't ever get to go to a zoo because there isn't one very close. Within 15 minutes, we can be at this very fun place!

  15. I usually only plan 1 field trip a semester. Our PK teacher does like 5-6. The thing with field trips is that the teachers "own" the field trip, so it's hard to find a place to go that nobody "owns". ((smile))

  16. My favorite field trip is going to see a play. The kids really like it and i do not have to be worried about loosing anyone :)

  19. Two years ago, we had a field trip to the zoo. Everything was successful until one of my students had an "accident" of the smelly kind 10 minutes before the buses were headed back to school. No change of clothes or nothing. Of course I'm in panic mode. Luckily, one of my parents had a change of clothes that fit the child. Lesson learned: Always have students bring a change of clothes on the field trip, even in first grade!

  20. My favorite field trip with my firsties is the pumpkin patch. Since I teach in a lower income school, the majority of them have never been to a farm and they are so excited by it all! Teaching with Giggles

  21. Yay! We are loving your celebration and thanks for letting us be a part of it Ash!

It's a great thing we job share because one of us simply loves field trips, and the other has quite an aversion to them! It's always a bit of Russian Roulette to see whose day the field trip falls... :)

  23. My favorite field trip I have gone on was to the Dallas Arboretum! I just love all the flowers and they had fairy tale themes when we were there so my kids really connected the castles and stories to those we had read in class!

  24. I would love to take my kids to a farm this year. They live in California and most have never seen a real cow lol

  25. We went to the zoo and it was amazing! The kids were great!

  26. Field trips are so fun! However, riding on a school bus being about 8 weeks pregnant this last year was almost too much!!

  27. We took our 4th graders on a Field Trip for the first time this year! They had soooo much fun. We went to the Houston Museum of Natural science. The best part of that trip was going into the butterfly habitat where there were thousands of butterflies fluttering around and landing on the kids.

  28. We go to the farm that also has a pumpkin patch to go with our plant unit in the fall.

  29. We don't get many field trips at our school-$$$ issues. But we had a great end of year trip to our local park. We were subsidized, so the kids got to ride the rides (first time ever), played in the playground, and loved the splash park! It was great.

  30. This happened to a colleague...she had to choose which parents could go on the field trip as chaperones due to excess interest. And when we showed up at the destination, three of the parents who weren't chosen 'just happened' to be there. Awkward!

  31. Sadly, I don't go on field trips. I don't have my own classroom. I'm a special area ELA teacher... so it's just teaching for me!

  37. My favorite field trip is to the Ruth Hunt Candy Factory in our small town. The students get a tour of the factory, learn how chocolate is made, and leave with free candy! Then, we go to lunch at Cracker Barrel :) They love it and so do I!

  39. My favourite field trip was to Cabbage Tree Point in Queensland Australia. I had a Prep class (kinders) and many parents to assist! They found crabs, sloshed in mud, and investigated the creatures in a dam. It was the best day every!

  40. My scariest field trip moment happened on my second field trip as a first year teacher. I was teaching kindergarten (as I do now) and I had been counting my students constantly and I was taking one last recount on the bus, but this last time I came up one student short and the bus driver just pulls out of the parking lot... I was like... wait, I'm missing a student! He didn't hear me and kept driving...Luckily my student was just hiding under his hood and I counted him the next second, but I thought I was going to have to jump off the bus and run back to our field trip area to find my student.

  41. Best field trip zoo. I work at a school that the children will not have an opportunity to travel out of our hometown so this was big....2 hours away and to a different state.

  42. My favorite field trips are to our local corn maze and to to our local sweet shop where they make almost everything on-site with no artificial colors or preservatives. The kids get to make their own candy canes when we go at Christmas time.

  43. Our best field trip was to a water park! We had so much fun!!! I was scared at first because I thought it was going to be hectic and chaotic but it went smoother than expected. :)

  44. I found your blog on Farley's Currently link up, and I have to say: it is ADORABLE!

It's funny: I wrote about erasable pens in my B2S must-haves, too. :) Except I wrote about the brand Pilot. I'll have to try your idea, too. You can never have enough erasable pens, right?!

  46. Re: "Wanting someone to organize my books".... yes, yes, and yes!

I just entered the blogosphere and posted about the labor of love that is a classroom library. Anyone have suggestions for being hyper-organized but not taking a lot of time? My system is worth it, but's it a lot of work. Take a look!
